Andy L. Garcia is a biomedical engineer and founder of a stealth medtech startup. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering at Columbia University, where he is working on developing tissue engineering strategies to improve the success of surgical interventions for osteoarthritis of the knee. Andy is passionate about developing and promoting technologies to benefit human health, with the goal of democratizing access to effective, convenient, and accessible care for all. He is excited by the synergistic relationship between innovation, healthcare, and business, and he develops winning strategies to bring novel technologies to market. In addition to his work at his startup and his doctoral research, Andy has also worked as a research intern at NYU Langone Health, where he investigated the role of the molecules CXCL12/CXCR4 in bone metabolism and injury repair to determine the biochemical signals responsible for stem cell function. He has also performed aseptic survival surgery on rodent subjects to create critically sized mono-cortical defects in tibia and administered inhalation anesthesia and analgesia via subcutaneous injection. Andy holds a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from New York University, a Master of Science in biomedical engineering from Columbia University, and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in biomedical engineering at Columbia University. He also holds an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors from East Meadow High School. As a research scientist, Andy's relevant experience is 0.43 years. He is skilled in tissue engineering, mechanical engineering, and biomedical engineering, and he is dedicated to improving the lives of patients through innovative medical technologies.
